The Hive Bulk Foods, Malaysia’s first zero waste shop has opened its door for their second store in Ampang.
Its founder, Claire Sancelot, launched the first outlet back in 2015 at Lorong Maarof, Bangsar Park.
“I was the only customer of my shop for a while, and one of my biggest challenge was sourcing for products.
“Convincing local suppliers to supply me with food in bulk without plastic was often difficult, but it got a little easier when the movement started to pick up. The offer was simply not there at the beginning,” she said.
Sancelot also shared how she started 8 years ago switching from disposable diapers to washable ones to being the malaysian leader in bulk food and zero waste facing more difficulties than any entrepreneur.
Since then, The Hive has helped build up a base of customers who are not averse to buying products without packaging or a big brand name attached to it, and its success has charted a path for more zero waste stores in Malaysia.
During the event, Sancelot gave everyone a quick tour of the shop to present the extensive range of dried bulk foods available, lifestyle accesories and malaysian locally made beauty products, the group joined the conversation with Claire sharing her experience.
The guest were then invited to join two beauty workshops to make a body scrub and a body bath under the direction and explanation by Ruth Matthews from Young Living essentials oils.
